I think

Common sense, I realized, is fast becoming uncommon.

With the information superhighway merely a click away, typing into a search engine is seemingly becoming easier for some people more than putting on their thinking caps and letting it do its work. It's a shame. The internet is supposed to be a means to enhance our selves, not a tool to replace a God-given gift.

Cogito ergo sum.
"I think, therefore I am."
- Rene Descartes

It will truly be devastating if, someday, one would say, "I think NOT, therefore I am NOT" for the denial of an aspect of the self is in many ways a denial of God whose image and likeness we were created from.

What do you think?

  1. "Pensees"

The internet is a tool, like anything else, equally capable of being used for good or bad. And it is immensely powerful... providing all kinds of "information."

But we need "wisdom" or God-given thinking to discern which information is necessary and how to use the right information to make the right decisions.

I think the problem with having so much information available is that it can be a distraction. Blaise Pascal put together an outline for a book he never finished, due to his untimely death. It has been called "Pensees" or "thoughts." One chapter in that book has been very influential to my philosophy. It's called "The Misery of Man without God." One of his main points is that men are always seeking a "diversion" or a "distraction" lest they think on their condition, mortality, etc. and become miserable.

The only hope Pascal offered for man to escape this misery was for him to look to God... And that is something we can only do imperfectly now, "as in a mirror." But He has given us a guarantee of the promise. and His words. That gives me hope.

    That is what I think.

  2. "I think the problem with having so much information available is that it can be a distraction." - I couldn't have said it better!

On my way home, I pass by four major malls in Makati City and high-end stores and another mall in Global City. Talk about TOO MUCH information when I have shopping on my mind! ;)

But on a more serious note, I would love to read more of Blaise Pascal's work. Thanks for sharing about it. :D
